Ruth Elaine Stewart
May 6, 1948 - June 10, 2022
Ruth Elaine (Blair) Stewart was born on May 6, 1948, in Edmond, OK to Merrill and Wilma Blair. Ruth was blessed to grow up in a Christian home and accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age. She was raised in Deer Creek on the family dairy farm. She had various chores such as milking cows, weeding the vegetable garden, canning bushels of fruit, taking care of younger siblings and helping cook and clean. Ruth graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1966. In high school, she was an All-State basketball player and a State Champion. She was a cheerleader and involved in Band and Chorus. Ruth graduated from Central State College in 1970 with a degree in Education. She taught school, worked at a fabric store and in the Medicare field, and was a homemaker for the majority of her life. Ruth married Wayne Stewart on December 20, 1968. They had 52 wonderful years together and had a big happy loving family, with a home always full of laughter, togetherness and delicious food. They loved to go on cruises or on trips with their kids and grandkids. She was proud of her family’s accomplishments and talents. She loved to watch her kids, and later her grandkids, participate in any of their activities. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, her parents, Merrill Leman and Wilma Emogene (Bierschenk) Blair and her brother John Blair. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Mike and Sabrina Stewart, Becky and Buck Jenkins, Amy and J.D. Gwartney, Megan and Justin Rogers, and Kyle and Lindsay Stewart; 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sisters Naomi Minton, Lois Blair, Martha Blair, sister-in-law Marilyn Blair and brother Larry and his wife Daneta Blair. Ruth loved to go to church and was involved in various prayer teams and online ministries. She started her mornings by reading her Bible, journaling, and prayer. She was always quick to offer a prayer if you had any struggles, sickness or anxiety. She was a strong believer in God’s promises and would pray them over you. Ruth loved to read God’s word and encouraged her kids and grandkids to read the Bible as well. She offered an incentive to her kids and grandkids of a meal to your choice of restaurant for reading the Bible through in one year. Ruth loved to laugh, sing, read books, and listen to talk radio. She was a great and talented seamstress. She made all her daughters’ wedding dresses, many other prom and bridal dresses, dance costumes, and various other home décor. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved cooking, family gatherings, and church friends. Birthdays were special celebrations where she cooked the lucky birthday person their favorite main dish and dessert. She loved her brothers, sisters and sisters-in-laws and extended family. She had seemingly unlimited patience (which she really needed being married to Wayne-who was not super patient and as also the mother of five children). She was a fun, kind and caring grandma/goggy to her grandkids. She was a constant encourager for her family and friends and always thanked her heavenly Father for his provisions. She always shared her love for Jesus with others and put her faith and trust in Him. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond. A service celebrating the life of Ruth will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 16th at Putnam City Baptist Church located at 11401 N. Rockwell Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73162. *The service will be streamed online at PCBC.TV. * In lieu of flowers, memorial donations honoring the life of Ruth can be made out to the Putnam City Baptist Church.
