Patricia Ann Gies Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Patricia A. (Pat) Gies passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2022, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Pat was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 22nd, 1930, to Robert Keveney and Evelyn Pinkerton Keveney. She attended Arthur Dixon elementary grade school and graduated from Mercy High School in 1948. She married the love of her life, Charles (Chiz) Gies on June 18th, 1949 at St. Joachim Catholic Church and celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2021. Pat was a busy homemaker as she and Chiz raised three children. Chiz’ career with the Santa Fe Railroad led them from Chicago to San Francisco and Bakersfield, California, Phoenix, Arizona, back to Chicago, on to Topeka, Kansas and then back to Chicago where they retired. While in Topeka, Pat attended Washburn University and received a degree in Secondary Education and taught seventh and eighth grade English at Roosevelt Junior High School. Pat was also involved at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Hayden High School where her children attended. Pat and Chiz moved to Lenexa, Kansas soon after retirement and reconnected with their old friends. Becoming new members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church provided a thriving community as Pat and Chiz made many friends in the Kansas City area. Pat was an avid reader, loved to paint, knit, cross stitch, quilt, play golf, bridge, and Rummy Kub. Pat and Chiz loved to travel and she spent numerous vacations in Europe. Pat cherished her trips to Ireland as this was the home of her mother’s family. She was a devout Chicago Cubs fan and was elated when they won the World Series in 2016. Pat and Chiz moved to Edmond, OK in 1999 to be closer to family and were active members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Pat graduated from Grandma Pat to Gigi when the great grandchildren started to arrive! She loved attending the various activities and spending time with family meant the world to Gigi. She will be dearly missed by everyone. Pat is survived by her one son, Thomas Gies and his wife Lucy, daughter, Julie Gies Woner and her husband, Kent, grandchildren, Sarah Raff Newby, Michael Raff, Charles Woner, Betsy Gies and Emily Woner Brink, great grandchildren, Austin Newby, Kate Newby, Payne Raff, Oliver Raff, Finley Raff, Pierce Woner and Lila Brink. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gies, their daughter Kathy Gies Raff, and her parents Robert Keveney and Evelyn Pinkerton Keveney. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Patricia Gies’ name to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Educational fund to promote literacy at 925 S. Boulevard, Edmond OK 73034. A service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held August 27th at 10am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, OK. The family invites everyone to wear a shade of green in honor of Pat’s Irish heritage!
