Michael Shane Miller Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A come-and-go visitation and reception will be from 5-7pm on Monday, July 11th at Crawford Funeral Service, Edmond. A service celebrating Michael's life will be at 2pm on Tuesday, July 12th at Life Church Edmond. Michael Shane Miller was born August 4th, 1973 in Manila, Philippines to Dennis and Annie Miller. He and his younger sister, Michelle, grew up around the United States as an Air Force family. Mike would tell anyone he met that his favorite place to live was Alaska, which likely sparked his love for fishing, shooting, and being outside. He and his family settled in Oklahoma, where Mike placed permanent roots. He created a family of friends and found the love of God. He graduated from Del City High School, gave college a try, and then started working at Target as a signing specialist. This meant that his apartment was decorated with discarded Star Wars signage, a true attraction for the ladies. Mike claims he saw his wife, Misty, on her first day of work at Target. He worked days and she worked evenings and one night, after months of encouragement from their mutual friends, he came to Target under the guise of needing toothpaste. He talked her up as she worked the jewelry counter and she gave him her number on register receipt paper. Early in their relationship, Mike told Misty his primary goals in life were to be a good husband and father. She decided to keep him forever. They got married on July 27, 2002 and Misty is quite annoyed he didn’t make it to their 20th anniversary. She has decided to forgive him because he truly was a stellar husband and father. His greatest accomplishment was being a father to Isaiah (11 years old) and Norah (9 years old). He adapted to parenting quickly and never pawned off feedings or diaper changes. His wife continues to marvel at his ability to sleep through the cries of the children in the middle of the night, although a quick shove would send him on his merry way. He was an equal partner. He went along with his wife’s type A scheduling, willingly alternating waking up with the kids and cooking dinner. His calm and patient demeanor was not only perfect for his children, but also his wife as she maintained ridiculously high expectations for herself as a parent. He provided the perfect cornerstone for their family. He was a rock throughout Isaiah’s epilepsy journey. Their family’s favorite traditions were looking at Christmas lights while eating Hurt’s donuts, riding their bikes to Braum’s for ice cream, and their beloved Friday night movie nights. Norah’s favorite thing about her dad was his hugs. Isaiah’s was “doing fun stuff together.” Mike described himself as content. Others described him as kind, patient, and sweet, with a deep love for his family. He had a talent for finding the most expensive hobbies. He played guitar off and on in various worship bands, including the critically acclaimed (by the band wives) Silversoul, which toured rural churches in the early 2000s. He collected a metric ton of guitar pedals and accessories. He was really into paintball for a while and collected all of the associated gear and guns. He played various video games and most recently, he had been praying for his PS4 to die so he could finally get a PS5. Many nights, his wife fell asleep to him shouting, “aw COME ON” at the random stranger who shot him in Call of Duty. His son has picked up this saying. He loved collecting guns and shooting at the range. He joined a bowling league, bringing back a high school hobby (1st place in the Area-Metro Scholarship tournament, ask his wife to show you the photo featuring a sweet mullet). Of course, that meant he collected bowling balls, gear bags, shoes, and YouTube subscriptions. He was an avid fisherman and introduced words such as “crank bait” and “chatterbait” into the Miller vocabulary. For the last three years, Mike worked as a classroom assistant for elementary students with behavioral needs. Coworkers report the same qualities his family loves about him – his kindness, patience, and hugs that helped them and his students get through their days. He found a fantastic group of friends. He loved his students and they loved Mr. Mike. He was so excited to transfer to Isaiah’s new middle school this fall. His family is so grateful Mike was able to spend the last weeks of his life on summer break with the kids, taking them bowling (“it’s free for kids on Tuesdays!”), to Pelican Bay (“okay, but I don’t want to get in the water that much.”), to Target (“we needed toothpaste!”), and to OnCue for snacks (“I know, but the kids were thirsty!”). On the last night of his life, Mike decided to skip going to the gym and instead went on a family bike ride with his wife and children. They were halfway home when Norah needed a quick break. When she started pedaling again, Mike said his last words, “way to go, Bear!” which is completely fitting for the man who dreamed of being a good husband and father. He was truly the best. He is survived by his wife, Misty Miller; children, Isaiah and Norah Miller; parents, Dennis and Antonia Miller; a sister, Michelle Roberts and husband Brandon; a nephew, Jonathan Schetroma; nieces, Lyric Garlitz, Antonia Roberts and Cali Penns; and an uncle, Gary Miller and wife Judy. He will also be missed by mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tanya and Charlie Jacob; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paige and Darren Boyett and Ryan and Jenna Jacob; in-law nieces, Scarlett and Emma Boyett and Ivye Jacob; and countless more family and friends. A service celebrating Mike’s life will be at 2pm on Tuesday, July 12th at Life Church Edmond (2nd & I-35) with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery in OKC.
