Marquita J. Carleton was born on June 13, 1926 in Bauxite, AR. She died May 24, 2021 at the age of 94 years. She was born to Fred H. Ball and Margaret A. Ball. While working at Tinker Air Force Base, she met Charles “Charlie” H. Carleton, Jr. They married on July 28, 1946 in a double wedding with her sister, Mercedes, and husband, Albert L. Wheeler, Jr. They were married for 64 years until Charlie’s death in March 2011. Marquita worked as a secretary at several companies before landing at Kerr-McGee Corporation. She worked as an Executive Secretary in the Executive Office for many years. At her retirement she was in charge of the charitable contributions for the Kerr Foundation. She loved to sing, paint, sculpt, and work in her yard. She loved to watch the birds and squirrels playing in her backyard. She loved spending time with her family most of all. Many summers were spent at Lake Eufaula at their vacation cabin. She loved having her family come to the lake to ski, fish, play golf, and just enjoy the lake life. Marquita had a strong faith in God. She loved to read and study the bible. She attended Northside Bible Church for many years and later joined Quail Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her sister and brother-in-law, Mercedes and Albert Wheeler; her parents and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her son, Charles “Skip” H. Carleton III and wife Ulrike “Rike”; daughter, Denise Lovelace and husband Mark; sister, Fredine; 4 grandchildren: Travis Lovelace and Michael Lovelace; Stephanie Carleton-Grim and husband Matt; Christine Hopkins and husband Mason; 8 great-grandchildren: Gabe, Nate, Elise Grim; Annie, Sam, Will Hopkins; and Christian and Colton Lovelace. Nieces: Jodie Lago; Kat Ryan (Derry); Elaine Hobson; Susie Wheeler, Janet Galloway, Pam McSpadden (Vance); Nephews: Al Wheeler (Kathy); Robert Ramo; and Richard Ramo. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and management team of Tealridge Assistant Living for the loving care and compassion shown to our mother during her stay. Visitation for family and friends will be on May 27, 2021 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm with services following at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Crawford Family Funeral Services, 610 NW 178th St, Edmond, OK.
