Louis William Schweer was born March 20, 1927 to Theodore and Emma Windler Schweer in Covington, OK. Louis went to be with his Lord on December 5, 2021. Louis was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran, Covington and was confirmed in 1940, later serving as Elder and many Board positions. He attended St. John's Parochial School through the 7th grade, Lone Star School (rural) for the 8th grade and graduated from Covington High School in 1945. He showed cattle as a member of FFA, played football and was a trombonist in the school band. He was the president his Senior Class and of the Covington FFA chapter and one of the first Young Master Farmers in Covington. Louis started Navy boot camp in San Diego, CA on his 18th birthday. Serving as a Yeoman Petty Officer 3rd class, he was stationed at Guan in the radio teletype shack. Following his service to our country, Louis studied electronic engineering at Oklahoma A&M (OSU). He moved to Wichita KS to work for Beechcraft as an Expeditor. There he met his future wife, Patrica Thomas. He brought his lovely bride home to Covington in 1953 and raised their four children in the home he built on the same site as his childhood home. Louis was a man of many talents, he raised wheat and cattle, worked in the oilfield at night, and carpentered during the winter months. Louis was a respected leader and tireless worker for his community. He was known for being a leader of innovation and progress, knowledge, and fairness. He served on the Garfield County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for many years. He received the Centennial Homestead Award and the Garfield County Farm Bureau Farmer-Rancher of the Year. Louis served on the Covington-Douglas School Board as a member and President. During his time on the Board the school started the Garfield County's first Rural Special Education Class and Kindergarten. He was a charter member of the Covington Lions Club and started the Food Share program. He served for 23 years on the Garfield County Metropolitan Area Planning Committee. Louis went from growing wheat to growing beautiful flowers in retirement. His gardens were a paradise and a special place for the birds he loved. His flowers were used to decorate the sanctuary and parish hall of his beloved St. John's Church. Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Pat of 68 years, parents Ted and Emma Schweer and siblings Verma Jean Mall and Maurice Schweer. He is survived by his children: Windler Schweer and Kathy of Carlisle, MA, Mary Beth Smith and Bill or Arcadia, OK, Jenifer Gardner and Bryan of Augusta, KS, and Rebecca Easterly and Richard of Edmond, OK and sister-in-law Joy Schweer. Grandchildren: Zane Schweer, Parker Schweer Tiffany Smith Cargill, Christel Smith Miles, Amanda Gardner Huelskamp, Reynolds Gardner, Brittany Easterly Lay, Stephanie Easterly Shellabarger and Christopher Easterly. He was also the proud granddad to 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Louis will be interred at St. John's Cemetery, Covington, OK. Memorial donation in the honor of Louis can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Covington, OK.
