Edward Roger Dobson, aspiring karaoke star, ladies’ man, dirt road adventurer, and master of the dad joke, passed from this life on November 24, 2021, with his family by his side, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Roger, as he was better known by to family and friends, was born in Newkirk, Oklahoma on May 26, 1939, to Edward Raymond Dobson and Nora Ellen Collins-Dobson. He was an only child, which explained his feisty attitude and spunky personality. He spent much of his life in Arizona then returned to his home state of Oklahoma in 1978. Roger worked for, and retired from, Oklahoma State University. Upon his retirement, he spent his days with his loving wife, Barbara, and their beloved dogs, watching western movies and soap operas. He loved telling jokes to his grandchildren. His favorite: “A man walked into a bar….he ducked.” He was a husband, a father to eleven children, a Papa to countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a dear friend to so many. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Nora Dobson, his wife, Barbara Dobson, and daughters, Jamie Ellen Wakley-Dobson, and Nora Lee Smith. Roger is survived by 9 children, Teri (Paul) Smith, Mike (Susan) Dobson, Calvert Steven Smith, Roger Dale Dobson, Leslie Catlett, Alta Lynn (Bob) Graves, Kelly Dobson, John Dobson, Stella (James) Stevens, and his furry best friend and loyal companion, Jack. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
