June 13, 1957 - August 15, 2019
Debra Ann Sanders was born June 13, 1957 to the late Freda Sue Whitley and RC Hicks of Edmond, OK. She graduated from Western Heights High School in 1975. “Debbie” met the love of her life, Robert “Bobby” Sanders, and they wed September 3, 1976. Deb and Robert were devoted to their church, and Deb enjoyed singing with her group, “Potter’s Clay”. They formed many deep-rooted friendships in their young, married years that continue to this day. Debra’s love for the Lord guided her in reaching out to friends and strangers alike making her job in public relations both easy and fun. Over the years, she held many jobs ranging from customer service at TWA to PR work for Orthopedic Associates. Most recently she was employed as Marketing Director for Orthopedic Spine Associates. In her “spare time”, Debra used her talents in fashion to design couture wedding gowns. She and her daughter worked side-by-side helping prepare brides to walk down the aisle with D’plazzo Events. Many appreciated her expertise and valued her guidance for their big day. Deb would start as a bride’s planner, but very quickly became a lifelong friend. Debra was passionate about everything she touched; however, it was the role of mother that she cherished most. In 1981, Debra and Robert brought home their son, Jason. Jason was joined by his baby sister, Dacia, in 1985. Debra covered her children in prayer each and every day. She considered them her best accomplishment and would challenge anyone that said otherwise. Debra valued the time they spent as a family of four; always planning ways to make her family feel loved and valued. Over the years her family continued to grow. She welcomed a son-in-law, two grandsons and a daughter-in-law to her family with open arms. “Nana” was ready to spoil Tucker and Sawyer at every turn. But Nanas can get exhausted, so Deb relaxed by working in her garden; cheering on her teams, OSU Cowboys and OKC Thunder; and planning escapes to tropical locations. She would often say that the beach reminded her of what Heaven must be like. Debra slipped from this life to her eternal home on August 15, 2019 surrounded by the family she treasured. She left a legacy of faith and endearment; ministering to every person she met whether that meant a hug, handwritten letter or some small token. If you were ever fortunate to receive a note from Deb, it would have been signed with her official title, the title she will carry through eternity.
