January 2, 1942 - March 14, 2019
Betty Lou Warren aka “Grammy” “Miss Betty” and “Navy Mom” passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the age of 77. Betty was born on January 2, 1942 in Lawton, Oklahoma to James and Evelyn Dossey. She graduated from Midwest City High School. Betty spent most of her life in the Oklahoma City area. Betty’s parents proceeded her in death and she was an only child. Betty was a loving mother to five children: Tony, Tia, Tiffany, Jim and Brenda. Tony and Tia were from her marriage to Sam Mead. Brenda and Jim joined the family when Betty and James married in 1970. Together, Betty and James are parents to Tiffany. She has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was extremely detail oriented; very organized and a true patriot that loved the US Military, especially her Navy TACAMO family. Her working career spanned many years and included: Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center from 1961 to 1993 and Navy Protocol from 1994 to 2005, both at Tinker Air Force Base; and lastly Sooner Baptist Church. She retired more than once and just kept going, finally retiring in 2017. She was an active and dedicated member of Sooner Baptist Church and loved her church family. Traveling was a hobby that Betty and James enjoyed. Over the years, they have visited Belgium, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland, and all across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Betty enjoyed collecting pretty things and also items from her Russian trips. She began quilting as a hobby and it became a passion. She is an amazing quilter. She was an outgoing person and enjoyed life and having a good time. Her passion for life and love was easily shared with her many, many friends. There was always a reason to visit with friends, eat, sew and just chat. She was a proud member a few quilting groups: Stitch and Bitch; Sit and Sew; and the Wannabees. She loved her Weight Watchers girls for the past 17 years. The memories of life with Betty are going to be many and will be important to all of us. She was always the first to encourage others and say you can do it. She was a 2nd mom to many. As you reflect over the years and give thanks for the memories, know that you were very special and important to Betty. She loved to laugh and loved to share. Thank you for being a part of her life. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10:00am at Sooner Baptist Church, 5824 SE 15th Street, Midwest City, OK. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Betty’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Syrian Ministry at Sooner Baptist Church in Memory of Betty Warren.
